NOPE: New Orleans Proletarian Electronica

About

It is happening again…

Deathrage Records presents NOPE: New Orleans Proletarian Electronica. Call it a gathering, a party, a show, a happening, a situation, a freakfest, or whatever the fuck you want. Call it a carved out space that rejects algorithmic determinism and the commodification of human connection. Call it a line of flight towards communal luxury. Call it a few hours of freedom. NOPE is where class consciousness meets celebration and performance meets participation. NOPE is not Netflix and NOPE is not chill—we’re sick and tired of chill. We’re bored of entertainment that pacifies and acts as emotional wallpaper. NOPE is not, and never will be, a Spotify playlist. NOPE is a giant middle finger to the algorithmic flattening of culture. NOPE is not a vibe. NOPE is about building community while platforming some of the coolest and freakiest underground music our city has to offer. NOPE is where we find each other.

NOPE 3 features live performances by Selma Oxor, Nonlethal Weapons, Nail Club, and Oscillation Communications, alongside DJ sets by Gabriela. See you there.

Artist Bios:

Seattle transplant David Kumler makes genre-defying electronic music under his Nonlethal Weapons moniker. Blending elements of industrial noise with techno, dub, and hip hop, Nonlethal Weapons' heady beats are equal parts dancy and hallucinatory. From mesmerizing grooves to blistering noise walls, Nonlethal Weapons’ live performances take listeners on a journey to the beyond and back again.

Selma Oxor is a Monterrey-born electroclash/electropunk artist known for her dark, provocative “electro trash goth” sound. Starting as part of a trio in 2007, she launched her solo career with the User 69 EP in 2012, earning praise from Remezcla and MTV Iggy for her raw, synth-driven intensity. She’s performed at SXSW, NRMAL, and other festivals, and continues to push the underground electronic scene forward with her gritty, cyberpunk, all hardware performance style.

With over a decade of releases under her belt, Sara Storm has built a name for herself producing emotional and raw minimal synth tracks, primarily under her Nail Club moniker. Gritty, arpeggiated synths weave in and out of pulsing basslines and lurching drum sequences. If you’ve never seen Nail Club live, you’ve missed out. Storm’s distorted, reverberating vocals will beckon you closer, while her pulsing synth rhythms punch you in the chest.

Oscillation Communications is one of North America’s longest running Live Hardware Electronica artists, formed in 1993 by synthesist David Fishe. Utilizing modern and vintage synthesizers, field recordings, live vocals, and multi instrumentalism, Oscillation Communications continues to push the boundaries between genres with unique live shows and interactive performances that showcase the live hardware experience of improvisation and structured synthesis soundscapes. Catch @oscillation_communications live at NOPE 3 on January 17.

Gabriela is a New Orleans based, Michigan born multi-hyphenate artist whose sound is largely influenced by her natural environments. Layering biophillic textures and rapturous momentum, she aims her passion for what is deep and real like a sonic beam at the dancefloor to move you, body and soul. Gabriela is a co-founder of New Orleans techno collective @nsfw.Nola with Lady Lavender and D1ME, in addition to heading an on-going sound art project titled Sound Gallery. Locally, she has played Subject Matter, Secret Handshake, Gimme A Reason, Body Language, COUCHES, Tech.n.o., and Set De Flo, sharing stages with the likes of Oak City Slums, WTCHCRFT, Marie Davidson, Annahstasia, James Bangura, Jensen Interceptor, Stonie Blue, and HYPERFEMME.
