Susumu Yokota Album Playbacks: 'Sakura', 'The Boy and The Tree'
Lo Recordings present an unprecedented World Listening Tour celebrating the music of the late Japanese ambient and electronic pioneer Susumu Yokota. Since the end of 2025, Yokota’s music has been played in a multitude of venues and listening bars across the globe, spanning 6 continents and fast approaching 100 events. The World Listening Tour coincides with a huge reissue campaign from Lo Recordings, which sees the release of all 14 albums originally released on Susumu Yokota's own Skintone label, across 2 deluxe box sets (vinyl, CD and digital) each containing 7 albums with each album also being released individually. This is a great chance to listen to some of the seminal works from Susumu Yokota and celebrate a unique part of Japanese culture with listening bar experience. A Japanese listening bar (or jazz kissa) is an intimate bar that originated in 1950s Japan, which very often prioritised high-quality sound and music appreciation over conversation and nightlife. These establishments are characterised by low-lit, cozy, and meticulously designed spaces with expensive, fine-tuned audio systems. They serve as a relaxed setting for audiophiles and music lovers to immerse themselves in music, with newer incarnations adding carefully selected drinks and small plates to add to the experience of listening to the music in a contemplative, communal atmosphere.
